The IEE Wiring Regulations book is structured into eight sections, including the appendices.

As such, the City and Guilds 2381 examination, follows the same structure, with a fixed number of questions in each section.

The table below shows clearly the eight sections of the exam and the number of questions and weighting of each section. This gives a clear indication of the importance of each section and how each section can affect your final examination score.

For example, you can see that 25% of the marks come from section 5 alone.

The City and Guilds 2381 Course is generally aimed at practising electricians and electrical contractors and is intended to ensure that they are conversant with the format, content and the application of BS 7671: 2001 as amended.

On completion of the 2381 course, delegates will normally sit the City & Guilds 2381 examination.

The course is also suitable for others who may require a basic working knowledge of BS 7671.

Topics of most courses include:

   • Detailed examination of all parts of BS 7671

   • Selection and sizing of cables

   • Sizing of protective conductors

   • Using the IEE On-Site Guide

   • Preparation for City & Guilds 2381 examination

Many students now prefer to study at home for the City Guilds 2381 qualification, but there are also courses provided by colleges which may be held over several months and there are also intensive courses lasting between 3 and 5 days.

On completion of the course, candidates can sit the exam for the City and Guilds 2381 Level 3 Certificate for Requirements for Electrical Installations: BS 7671: June 2001
